CANNONBALL RELATED
(Most people think it was just a cheesy movie. It was a few cheesy movies. But stuff in those cheesy movies, some of the craziest stuff, actually happened in the real - yes, real - Cannonball Runs. Plural. Hush-hush coast-to-coast races. It’s been happening since the early 1970s as we know it, but way back as long as there have been capable vehicles and balls of steel. From THE Cannonball Baker to the Cannonball Baker Sea To Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dashes, then several others, and lots of individual attempts. Quite a story.)

MORNING PRACTICE BOOK

MORNING - the very first part of the day, what you wake up and enter into.
PRACTICE - something you do every day, how you get better at something.
for
ITINERANT - wandering, no fixed place or (in this context) specific path, and not necessarily lost either. Exploring, free.
SOULS - that intangible drop of something greater that animates us; the life force, consciousness, spirit; who I am inside the body.

MORNING PRACTICE for ITINERANT SOULS
Ideas on how to begin your days, with discipline and devotion, to better life and results… for people of no specific spiritual path.
Or, maybe you do have one or are called to one way; this is fine, I hope what’s in here helps you walk that path better. This book is not about the path, but about the walk.

FROM THE BOOK (page 13):
Even at a basic level, morning practice is a reset button to set you straight in difficult times in all different moments. In its sameness, the parts of practice remind you of the best and the basics in, around, and beyond you that do not change with every new wave or the day’s shifting breeze. Truths that remain however you may feel today. Of what lives deep in your core and connections that need not change either to suit these temporary winds.

The discipline to DO is strengthened by the doing every day. Habits are easy to keep… so set up a good one! Once you’re doing it, it’s doing you - you build your morning practice and it will build you. That minute or ten or hour, whatever it is to you in your current practice, you come out of it better than when you went in. Stronger. Cleansed. More focused and more planted. More established. More ready.

Reasons alone to have morning rituals! But healthy ones. Artificial chemical enhancement or asking for this or that, I can’t speak on. Do something to better yourself, your health, your own situation. Build that from inside, in ceremony, starting first thing in the day.

“I am very much enjoying mine. Thank you. Will be sharing with several others.”

”My wife and I have been reading from it every morning.”

”I love your books! Thank you for the time and energy you invested into creating such insightful wisdom.”

A FEW WORDS FROM SCOTT: I can't claim creation, I just got the gift of words and ways to present. Anything I write about is made up of little (and not so little) pieces I gathered or were given, but they all came from somewhere else. I just hope my little ways of presenting how I pieced them together will help others to piece theirs together. I’m a pretty positive and productive guy, and I can trace a bunch of that to how I try to start the day. A non-sectarian look at the struggle and sweetness of a devoted morning practice for the mind, body, and spirit. I’m no “expert” and this is WHY these 43 pages can help you get and keep yourself together!

MORE FROM THE BOOK (page 19):
Discipline, ritual, physical activity. It will adapt. And, again – I’m not talking some huge level of sudden change. I’m talking “better than you were yesterday.” This is not easy but we grow better through the trying, and this is a major accomplishment in this world to – against all negative forces – feel a little better anyway.

Soul: It helps to have, however it may be robed, the perspective that you are not a body having a conscious experience; you are consciousness having a body experience. You are more than the body. And you don’t have to be able to define that to know it. Our perception is limited, but definitely good enough to notice there’s a lot more going on than we can quantify.

(…and from page 26):
Mentally, physically, spiritually. Aim for consistency - set a doable bit and do that bit every day. Again, if it’s 5 minutes, do that five minutes rather than beating yourself up over the hour that doesn’t happen. Attainable goals. Steps. Grow it, grow you, grow more. That’s the hardest thing for me, consistency. I wake up with a head full of things to do and my little legs already going.

But I know I’m not bringing my highest to all of it unless I tune myself up first, establish my ground, focus my intent for the day, and - for me personally - offer my thanks and myself. I get to it after that, and I’m healthier overall because of it. And I stay right-minded longer and easier, like I’ve slipped a raincoat onto my consciousness before stepping out into the storm a day in a life can be.

43 PAGES may not seem like a lot, but these are powerful pages that will help.

POETRY

Sprout dharma

The plant just reaches for sky
It doesn't ask why
It won't begrudge you picking its fruit
Cutting its leaves or pruning its shoot
When dry it withers
In rain it greens
But all it knows
Is there's light so it leans...

And reaches and drinks
From what nourishes most
The water and sunshine
And smelly compost
Its purpose is pure
From the seed to the weed
To emerge and to grow
To bloom and to feed

One For The Whys

I don't live by that kind of logic
That leaves a man's pockets full
But his soul empty
Having never seen over the mountain

I do not wonder "What if" from here
I have tasted the wind
I have felt the rain
Not just gotten wet

This I know...
The turning point is far, far
Far beyond the point of no return

If sense holds you back
That is fine
If you don't understand the quest
That is OK
Go back and be sensible
In your safe decisions
Where your future awaits

But don't for a minute pretend
That going around the mountain
Will give you the view
Or turning back from it
Will leave you wiser
Merely because you avoided failure
By avoiding the bigger odds
Of the bigger dreams of stirred passions
Where another's destiny calls

Uncertain Times

I am not a preacher just a pilgrim on a path

Onward to whatever’s down this road

And I would never promise that my way’s the one for you

Not knowing what it takes to ease your load

But may we both look back

From some distant better day

And with all respects paid all

We ever lost along the way

See the best in each other

In these uncertain times

I wasn’t born a winner - I have stumbled to this hill

And it is but another of its kind

We all got here from somewhere - we’ll get somewhere else from here

I may die climbing for what’s left to find

Or maybe from the top

Looking over what has been

With no way to go back

Only to begin again

See the best in what happened

In these uncertain times

Find the best in each other

In these uncertain times

(S. Beckwith)
